Community Mobile Medical Clinic
Due to the lack of proper sanitation and hygiene in the Kibera Slum, residents are at a much higher risk of various infectious diseases. There is also a severe shortage of health services, making it difficult to serve and treat the hundreds of thousands of residents that live in this densely populated area.
With the lack of medical resources and access to primary care facilities so apparent, Crossing Thresholds started an exciting initiative running mobile medical clinics. With the help of our Clinic Coordinator, Emily Fawcett, Crossing Thresholds is able to offer medical services to the community for one week every summer. Throughout the week, the medical team works at all CT schools to ensure that various communities are seen and treated. In June 2018, nearly 300 patients were seen and treated in Kibera. Patients ranged from 3 weeks old to 72 years old and suffered from a variety of ailments including ear infections, parasites, and infected teeth.
Alongside Emily and other committed nurses and doctors that travel with us, we are hopeful that our work will aid in the controlling and prevention of infectious diseases in the slum.
If you are a medical professional and interested in volunteering in our mobile clinic and/or are interested in partnering with us to donate medical supplies please reach out to Emily Fawcett at Emilygfawcett@gmail.com.
Our medical clinic would not be possible without the generous donations from our supporters.
