In the Kibera slums of Nairobi Kenya, where only the resilient survive, Crossing Thresholds students are thriving.
Through education, connections, and change, we are making a difference. So we keep building.

How is Crossing Thresholds different? It’s our concerted effort to encourage direct personal connections based on mutual respect and trust. It’s an ethic we teach our students and it drives the way we work with all our Kenyan partners.
It’s a goal of Crossing Thresholds to change lives wherever we meet them – in Africa or North America. Improving existing situations in Kibera is, of course, essential to our mission. At the same time, Crossing Thresholds offers transformative experiences for volunteers who pay to join our trips to Africa where they can engage with children one-on-one. The fact that a large percentage of volunteers come back again and again is probably the best evidence of change and commitment we see happening.
