"I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be, and you can never be what you ought to be until I am what I ought to be.”
~ Martin Luther King, Jr.
Adolescence is a difficult time for young people everywhere. But in Kibera, along with the stress of acute poverty, our graduating 8th graders must pass their national exams in order to move on to high school. We’ve seen our support and encouragement make a difference and change the course of numerous lives.
Our Mentorship Program is a unique opportunity to have a significant relationship with a young student (beginning in the 6th grade) during a pivotal and defining time in their lives. To deepen each relationship, the program is anchored by 3 video conference calls throughout the year. These calls are always a source of incredible joy for our mentees!
To join this program, the annual cost is $500. This contribution goes toward school fees, daily feeding program, school supplies, uniforms, and basic medical care. It’s all important, but the greatest reward for a mentor is in helping another human being realize his or her full potential.
Please find more information on the Mentorship Program Information Sheet.
