The official work of Crossing Thresholds began in 2009. While it felt like overnight, but was actually several years, we became school builders, supporting local visionaries and educators who believed in the power of education. Our shared commitment was to bring a more holistic approach to early childhood development and primary education.
We’ve learned a lot along the way. Today, with guidance from our local partners and hands-on support from hundreds of international volunteers, Crossing Thresholds has constructed four primary schools and one high school. We are, however, not merely school builders. Our partnerships are strategic and ongoing. At every school, we provide nutritious meals (breakfast and lunch) for all of our students. In addition, we cover much-needed medical services through our registered nurse. And of course, we offer an array of extracurricular programs, including music, dance, technology, sport, urban gardening and women’s/girls’ empowerment.
We’re proud of where we’ve come from – empty lots to schools that are safe, nurturing and stimulating. We’ve introduced over 1,000 volunteers to previously unknown thresholds and the urgent work of social transformation. And we’ve only just begun our efforts to build a better world for everyone who gets involved with Crossing Thresholds.
