Our MENTORSHIP PROGRAM helps promising  9th graders make the transition to high school

In Kibera, students hoping to make the transition from primary school to high school face two daunting challenges.

First, 9th graders must pass national exams; no easy task as these tests add high-stakes pressure to an environment already burdened by overcrowded schools, food insecurity, and limited educational support at home.

Second, high school in Kenya is not free, and few in Kibera can afford the school fees, daily nutrition, school supplies, uniforms, and basic medical care.

This is where our Mentorship Program has been making a significant difference! Our mentors provide ongoing guidance, coaching, and encouragement as students sit for their exams and then adjust to new high‑school environments far from home. Importantly, the $500 donation required to become a mentor goes toward paying the multiple costs of a high school education in Kenya.

To become a Crossing Thresholds Mentor, simply email
mentorship@crossingthresholds.org, and we’ll begin the process of partnering you with a promising 9th grader who needs and will deeply appreciate your help!
