March Update: 1,300 Miles Closer to Kibera!
The distance is 7,300 miles. The mission is bigger than the miles.
Some mornings, when the alarm goes off and it’s dark and cold, it would be easy to roll over and skip the ride. Training for 7,300 miles isn’t convenient. It isn’t comfortable. But in those moments, I think about the children in Kibera who wake up each day to circumstances far more challenging than a chilly Connecticut morning - and still show up to school with determination, joy, and belief in what education can unlock. They understand something powerful: education is not just about lessons in a classroom; it is a pathway to opportunity and a foundation for hope.
If they can walk dusty roads, navigate overcrowded neighborhoods, and sit packed into classrooms with focus and optimism, I can clip in and ride. Every mile becomes a small act of solidarity - a reminder that perseverance creates possibility. For these students, education opens doors that poverty tries to close. It expands what feels possible. When the ride feels hard, I remember that their daily commitment to learning is even harder - and that perspective keeps me moving forward.
